The Albanian Alps National Park encompasses high mountains dominated by peaks over 2,000 meters, including the highest peak, Jezerca (2,694 m). Llogara National Park

Llogara National Park is a natural treasure of Albania, renowned for its beauty and wonderful nature. The park is located in the southeast of the country and offers a range of extraordinary natural attractions for visitors.

It is situated about 40 km southeast of the city of Vlorë, on the spatial border between the Adriatic and Ionian seas. The Llogara National Park is formed by a watershed with forests, pastures, meadows, and extremely steep rocky areas. The park encompasses all the vegetation zones of our country.

The flora and vegetation in this region are rich and interesting, with about 1400 species of high plants known. Of scientific interest are plant associations such as: simple Black Pine on limestone, mixtures of Fir with Black Pine, etc.

Medicinal and aromatic plants constitute a wealth of economic and scientific value, some of which are very rare. This park represents one of the richest areas in terms of biological diversity. Llogara National Park is distinguished by 15 different types of natural habitats, many of which are species preserved at the international level.

For a long time, it has been an extremely sought-after ecotourism destination and serves as a transit bridge to the Ionian coast, with great potential for the development of ecotourism, mountain sports, tours, and trips.

Shebenik-Jabllanicë National Park

Shebenik-Jabllanicë National Park is located in the eastern part of the Elbasan County in central Albania, near the towns of Librazhd and Përrenjas. It covers an area of 33,927.7 hectares and borders the Republic of North Macedonia to the east.

The altitudes in the park range from 300 m to over 2200 m at the peak of Shebenik Mountain, which, along with Jabllanicë, gives the park its name. Shebenik-Jabllanicë is one of Albania’s newest national parks, established in 2008.

The beauty of the landscape, contrasts, cold springs, relic glacial relief forms, glacial lakes, and subalpine and alpine meadows constitute significant ecotourism values. The area features at least 14 glacial lakes, the highest of which are found around 1900 meters, especially notable for complex cirques (like the one in Rajcë, with glacial lakes) and glacial valleys and moraines. Part of the park’s ecosystem includes the Bushtricë Valley, which originates from a glacial hollow on the eastern slope of Shebenik, the Qarrishta Valley, the Jabllanicë-Belicë mountains, which extend along the border line from Kryqit Pass to Thanë Pass, descending towards the Ohrid depression. The park is home to various species increasingly rare in Albania, including the brown bear, grey wolf, and the endangered Balkan lynx. It is a haven for a number of endemic and rare plants. Shebenik-Jabllanicë Park boasts extraordinary biodiversity values, with rare, endemic, and sub-endemic plants, and a diversity of ecosystems.”

“Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park

Karaburun-Sazan is the only national marine park in Albania. This park is located on the southeastern coast of the country, stretching 1 nautical mile along the Karaburun Peninsula and around the island of Sazan, offering a range of extraordinary natural attractions for tourists and nature researchers. This part of the rocky coastline features landscapes with exceptional panoramic qualities, where visitors can explore caves, canyons, and small bays, such as the Haxhi Ali Cave, etc.

The coastal habitats of the Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park are often visited by rare marine mammals. The Mediterranean monk seal is one of the visitors to the Albanian coastal waters. The area is also occasionally visited by common dolphins and short-beaked common dolphins.

The park holds underwater cultural and historical values, evidences, and archaeological attractions from ancient periods found underwater, which are also abundant along the coast, such as ancient sailors’ inscriptions on rocks, etc.

Drenova Fir National Park

The Drenova Fir National Park is a natural reserve located in the southeast of Albania, in the district of Korçë, covering an area of about 1380 hectares. This park is a significant destination for nature lovers who wish to explore the rich flora and fauna of this area.

This national park is a diverse home for water birds, sheltering about 51,000 individuals and around 500 pairs of nesting birds, including 89 different species of mollusks, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, some of which are endangered in Albania.

Karavasta Lagoon is the largest lagoon in the country, covering 41.8 km², and is a significant site for migratory birds. It is recognized as one of the most important lagoons for birds on the Mediterranean coasts.

Hotova Fir National Park

Located in the Dangëllia highlands in southeastern Albania, 35 km northeast of Përmet, lies the Hotova Fir National Park. This tourist gem is a stunning destination covered with fir trees, an important species of the area, which beautifies the village and the entire park.

Butrint National Park is a special area for tourism in Albania, notable not only for its great scientific, archaeological, social, and recreational values but also for its extraordinary biodiversity. It is primarily distinguished for cultural tourism in the ancient city of Butrint, blue tourism in the Ksamil area, and ecotourism in Lake Butrint. The park is bordered by high hills and mountains in the southwest, east, and southeast, which contribute to the feeding and breeding of predatory bird populations such as the white-tailed eagle and globally threatened species like the sea eagle and yellow-legged gull; brackish and fresh water marshes on the northern shore of Butrint provide an excellent feeding base for waterfowl. Components of Butrint National Park also include lakes such as Lake Butrint, covering an area of 16 km², connected to the Corfu Channel through the Vivari Channel. The lake is rich in fish species like grey mullet, eel, sardine, and the family engraulidae. Mussels are the dominant mollusks and have been cultivated since 1968. Bufi Lake, also known as Rrëza Lake, covers an area of 83 hectares. It is fed by several freshwater sources, providing a habitat for various fish, amphibians, and reptilian species, such as grey mullet, carp, eel, Epirus frog, striped neck turtle, marsh frog, and small water snake. A fantastic combination of marine, lagoon, coastal, and hilly environments, along with historical elements, makes Butrint National Park an unmissable destination.”
